Everything Old is New Again: A Centennial Throwback

In honor of our 100th Anniversary, we are taking a trip down memory lane by reviving our vintage newsletter format, “Chips… from the board.” Looking back at the April 7, 1981 edition, it is striking how much of the “modern” real estate conversation was already taking place 45 years ago. While our members in ’81 were dealing with the transition to “zero lot lines” and the shock of construction costs rising to $37.00 per square foot, they were also pioneering the discussion on solar tax credits and energy-saving construction—topics that remain front and center in 2026.

As we look at the legacy of past leaders like 1980 Salesman of the Year Bobby McQueen and President John Walton, we see a century-long commitment to private property rights and professional excellence in Lubbock. We stand on the shoulders of these giants as we continue to build the future of our industry.
